I have been to Fernie twice. I love the resort so much. If you are after a European style apres ski scene you may be disappointed but if you are actually after the most beautiful champagne powder, you are in for a treat. The snow seems to be endless and falls all the way up to April, although in December you will need to wrap up warm You may look at the resort and think that it only has a few lifts, but forget the European one lift equals one or two runs. Go to the top of any lift and point yourself downhill in any direction. The tree runs are to die for and the variety of different terrain is exceptional. Off the hill there are nice relaxed bars and some very solid restaurants. Also well worth your time, is a visit to go and see the local ice hockey team the Fernie ghost riders. All in all, my favourite resort of the dozen or so i've been to.
Apres Ski: 3/5
I spent 3 weeks in Fernie during the 08 season. It is a fantastic powder resort, excellent for snowboarding, amazing tree runs where steeps and drops galore litter the terrain. No jump park anymore though, but loads of natural halfpipes and the endless free-ride opportunities more than make up for it. Quiet and few cues during the week.
