Kuusamo Holidays, Finland
Kuusamo Ski Holidays
Not far away from the hustle and bustle of Ruka, one of Finland’s main ski areas, Kuusamo itself is its own vibrant town. The centre is dominated by the impressive Kuusamotalo - Kussamo’s cultural hub - but just outside, you’ll find the walking and skiing trails, where you can hear the crackle and squeak of your footsteps in the snow and walk among white tipped trees.

Skiing in Kuusamo
Just a 30 minute bus ride from Ruka, Kuusamo is excellently located to take advantage of Finland’s 4th largest ski area. Beginners are well catered for in Ruka, with gentle blues, pretty tree-lined runs, and wide-open pistes, perfect for practising those sweeping turns.
Away from the blues, there are a handful of red and black pistes - an ideal playground for the more seasoned skiers of the group while those new to the planks improve in their comfort zone.
Snow is very reliable in Kuusamo and its neighbouring ski resort and while days are short from November through to January, floodlit skiing makes for a fantastic experience in itself.
Apres in Kuusamo
Kuusamo is far from the Finnish capital of apres ski, but the town even has its own Irish Bar in O’Leary’s - a staple for any ski resort. You’ll find live music and karaoke in Ravintola Remu, in addition to bar games and board games - more than enough to keep the group entertained for the evening.
Non ski activities in Kuusamo
There are a whole host of non-ski activities that are accessible from Kuusamo. A lot of them are based nearer to Ruka at Ruka Adventures. There, you’ll be able to have a go at ice karting, snowmobile safaris, reindeer sledding, and evening snowshoeing walks as you keep a keen eye on the sky for the northern lights.
Inside, there’s the waterpark at the Kuusamon Tropiikki and two bowling alleys - a local one in Kuusamo itself, and one up by Ruka ski resort.
