SALEN LINDVALLEN, SWEDEN
Skiing in Sälen Lindvallen
Lindvallen is a family-friendly Swedish resort which offers brilliant skiing to children and first-timers who are looking to build their confidence. Families will also appreciate the ski-in/ski-out accommodation, as well as the 20-minute transfer from Scandinavian Mountains Airport.
The largest of the ski resorts in the Sälen mountain range, Lindvallen has 45 slopes - the majority of which are aimed particularly at beginners. Slopes tend to be wide and uncrowded, with plenty of rolling greens. There is also a nursery area at the bottom.
Intermediates have 14 reds to tackle, while advanced skiers are less catered for, with just three blacks. If your holiday will depend on the quantity of advanced skiing, we’d definitely recommend elsewhere.
The vast majority of skiing here is below the treeline, with most of the runs heading back to the village centre - and when they don’t, it’s very clear how to get back without really needing a map.
You can also ski over to the Högfjället area - via a 3-person chairlift - to take the overall number of pistes up to 51, with 48 lifts. The Högfjället is more of the same, with the majority of runs being for beginners.
Lindvallen has a snow park as well, and also offers 17km of excellent cross-country skiing trails. Ski schools in Lindvallen are also strong, with passionate instructors that can speak fluent English.
Après is certainly quiet compared to notable party resorts in mainland Europe, like St Anton or Val Thorens.
That being said, there are still a few spots to know about. The Lindvallen Wärdshuset is at the base of the Gustav-III 8-person chairlift at 590m, and offers live music from Thursday-Sunday.
You can also try the Högfjellhotell, which has regular live music and energetic vibes that kick off in the early afternoon most days. This one is located in the Högfjället area.
If you’re really keen for some slopeside partying, then we’d recommend skiing in Hundfjället, where the Tandådalens Wärdshus awaits. This is cosy inside but has a huge outdoor terrace, where live music and performances are put on, really bringing the energy.
If you’ve had enough of the outdoors, then head to Experium, which has an aqua park fit with slides and a wave machine for you to practise surfing on. There are also smaller pools for a more relaxed experience, which might suit the adults and the very young ones.
That’s not all though - the complex also has a spa and sauna area, as well as various restaurants and bars. You can try the bowling alley and arcade games for a bit of fun, while there’s also a gym area where you can take part in yoga and pilates classes, or lift weights.
The town also has a cinema, and a children’s soft play zone.
