Chalet Elsa, Zermatt, Switzerland
Elsa is a just finished apartment renovation in an old wooden and very central chalet in Zermatt, situated just behind the church square in the heart of the old village, next to the main street with all its shopping and with easy access to a myriad restaurants. Located on the top floor (the similar 2 bedroom Elise is on the floor below), Elsa is south facing and you can admire the Matterhorn over the slate rooftops of the small higgledy-piggledy old wood chalets in front.
The cosy apartment is located on the third (top) floor and consists of two bedrooms, one double and one twin, and two bathrooms, one en-suite. The fully equipped open-plan kitchenette is small but has everything you need including a dishwasher, while the sitting / dining room has a lovely sloping beamed ceiling, a big sofa and leather armchairs, a convivial round dining table and a very large flatpanel TV. The second bedroom has twin beds which can be pushed together and has access to its own bathroom with shower. There is one separate W/C for all, and a washing machine / tumble dryer.
Elsa is an astonishing combination of old and new; the entrance and staircase of the chalet are showing their age, but as soon as you enter the apartment, you are cocooned in a tasteful combination of muted pastel and white colours, old wooden beamed walls, parquet floors, designer chairs and modern facilities.

Chalet Elsa sleeps 4 although it is also ideal for a couple. Like our other luxury chalets near the centre of the village, the chalet includes a number of modern comforts such as a large LCD flat screen TV with cable, free wireless broadband internet access and all usual modern kitchen appliances.
Chalet Elsa is located in the heart of Zermatt, between the church and the school, close to the main shopping street. South facing, it overlooks a jumble of village roofs with the Matterhorn above. It is the perfect hideaway, with the best of all worlds: both old and new.
If rented with Chalet Elise, on the floor below, the two properties can sleep up to 8 guests.
