An extensive ski area, with reliable snow conditions and advanced slopes to satisfy keen skiers and snowboarders, it’s easy to see why St Anton, as part of the Arlberg ski area, is a world-class ski resort. St Anton arguably has some of the top terrain in Austria and is best suited for intermediates and advanced skiers. More than half of its runs are reds or blacks and favours advanced skiers for its piste grading which is why it’s famed for its challenging slopes. The ski area’s blues are equivalent to red runs in other resorts and red runs equivalent to blacks, which is something to take note if you’re looking to visit.

1. Mega Moguls – Schindlerkar
This marked black trail, no.86 on the piste map, is a less challenging version of the Schindler run which must be skied with a guide. Reached from the top of the Schindlergrat triple chairlift, it’s a steep mogul field with high moguls that will seriously test your skiing - your legs will be burning!

2. A winding blue – No. 36
From the top of the Kapall in St Anton, this blue run is a long and cruising one with beautiful mountain views. It is great for less experienced intermediates or novice skiers and when visibility is poor as you’re closer to the tree line. You can ski into blue 24 from the bottom of 36 for a picturesque ski through the trees.

3. Descend into Stuben – No. 85
Near the Valluga peak, the red no. 85 run is a steep one with great views looking up to the Valluga summit at 2,811m. Plus, you can switch it up with a number of off-piste, marked runs or powder fields to try at the end of the run.

4. Famous and fearsome – Valluga
The longest run in the Arlberg ski area at 9km, Valluga is a world famous run for its tough terrain. It is for experts only and skiers will have to hire a guide to go down it. To access this off-piste run, you can take the Vallugabahn gondola up followed by a second smaller gondola to the top where you can admire stunning views over the valley from the observation deck. This run is best to tackle in the morning when it is less busy and snow conditions are at its best.
5. A non-stop blast – Blue 17
Situated at the top of the Anenmahder chairlift, it’s a wide and gentle run into Alpe Rauz and then into Stuben. It tends to be a lot quieter than the main areas in resort and at 7km in length, means it’s perfect for a non-stop blast to get your legs burning!
