New gondola, ski boot walk to France and Iglu Ski's Paralympic hero returns

New gondola, ski boot walk to France and Iglu Ski's Paralympic hero returns

Upgrade to iconic gondola in top French resort

A major gondola in the Three Valleys ski area will have a fresh look when skiers arrive for the 2025-26 season, with its gondolas and cables completely replaced with state-of-the-art technology.

The Chenus gondola line in Courchevel was a 4-person bubble (see pic below) until the end of the 2024-25 season, but will become a slick 10-person lift (see top pic).

Its speed will also increase from 3.7 metres per second to 5 metres per second, trimming more than 2 minutes off the ascent. The carrying capacity will also double, thanks to more gondolas on the line.

The bottom station will be more convenient for access from the road, while the top will have a new centre with 4 different restaurants, plus a picnic area for those taking their own food. From the top, you can easily get to any part of Courchevel, or towards Méribel.

Iglu Ski’s Paralympic legend smashes charity triathlon for disabled skiers

Team GB’s triple gold medal Paralympic star Jeanette Chippington OBE joined Iglu Ski to complete a triathlon in rapid time.

The team were greeted by sports presenter Clare Balding, who heaped on the praise for our team.

The Superhero Series triathlon took place at Dorsey Lake in Berkshire, with superhero outfits encouraged and plenty of money raised for disability charities.

Nearly £500 has been raised so far
for Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK), which helps disabled people enjoy the magic of skiing.

Iglu Ski and DSUK recently introduced Jeanette to skiing
at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.

Major cross-border mountain tunnel finally opens

A new road tunnel under the Alps has opened after 10 years of construction.

The 12.9km engineering feat connects the Savoie region in France with Bardonecchia, in the Piedmont area of Italy.

It’ll be a major route for freight, but also very convenient for ski holidaymakers, who can travel between the countries much more easily.

If you want to drive to your ski holiday, Iglu Ski offers plenty of accommodation-only ski holidays. We also do tailor-made ski holidays so you can get exactly what you want.

Pair walk to French resort in ski boots

Two friends have completed a mammoth journey on foot from London to Val Thorens - entirely in ski boots.

Matt Brinkley and Reuben Gray’s journey took 45 days and covered more than 800 miles, and they also had skis attached to their books for the duration.

They were welcomed at the resort by friends and family, with plenty of live music and free drinks.

The duo completed the challenge to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Snow Camp - a charity which uses snow sports to help young people facing adversity.
