We have just come back from a great week in Chamonix. As beginners we were advised by Iglu to book into a chalet. Good advice. The accommodation/rooms are very basic with not much room to dry stuff, but the bathrooms have recently been refurbished to a good modern standard, so 2 things make Sapiniere - the wonderful location opposite the nursery slopes with breathtaking views, and the staff.
As total beginners I would advise to play/learn on the slopes of Le Tour at Domaine de Balme (a 30 min bus ride away). I would also advise to leave the blue slopes next to Stade on Brevent until the end as they are more like reds (well - we thought so!). However, the views are stunning and worth going up for the Apres.
The bus network is easy to use and navigate, so make the effort to get about. 5 minute walk into Chamonix where there are a range of bars and places to eat as well as numerous ski shops.
Back to Sapiniere; we received a warm welcome from a friendly hard working team. They are a credit to Resort/Iglu and made us feel very welcome and looked after.
