Leitlhof Dolomiten - San Candido, Italy
On the wooded hillside above San Candido, this hotel is in a quiet spot where you can enjoy views of craggy limestone peaks. The Leitlhof has traditional South-Tyrolean good looks, with timber cladding and broad balconies. And the curved, glass front of the connected spa adds a classy, contemporary touch. The main lifts of the Baranci ski area are just 5 minutes’ walk away, or you can hop on the hotel’s free shuttle and get there even quicker.
The hotel’s got some serious green credentials too. It has its own power station, which produces electricity using wood chips from the nearby forest, making it almost carbon neutral.
Inside, the design is spacious and modern, with simple wood panelling and cosy soft furnishings – it’s stylish without being pretentious. Upstairs, earthy tones and textured fabrics make the bedrooms a relaxing place to unwind.
After a day on the slopes, it’s all about taking it easy here. You’ll come home to freshly baked cakes and tasty savoury snacks. And if your ski legs are sore, head to the 2,000m² spa area to relax. There’s a choice of saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs – and who could resist slipping into the heated outdoor pool to soak up the mountain views?
In the restaurant, local produce is the star. The Mühlman family who run the hotel also own a nearby farm, so many ingredients only travelled a few miles to get to your plate. The dishes are a mix of Italian and South-Tyrolean cuisine – you can look forward to enjoying carpaccio and spaghetti as well as dumplings and hearty stews. The kitchen is also happy to offer gluten-free or vegetarian alternatives. And of course, there’s an excellent wine list to explore.
