Best Après-Ski Bars and Nightlife Hotspots in St Anton

Best Après-Ski Bars and Nightlife Hotspots in St Anton

St Anton is one of Austria’s most famous party resorts and a gateway into the sublime Arlberg ski area - it's a top choice if you’re after some serious fun.

The resort's après scene can’t be understated - it’s indisputably Austria’s number one, and also gives France’s Val Thorens bars and nightlife a close run for its money.

If you haven’t already been, you may have caught a glimpse into its raucous offerings in Chalet Girl. The hit 2011 film was shot on location in St Anton, depicting the crazy après offerings – and of course the sensational skiing.

A few of our Iglu Ski sales team have managed seasons in St Anton, detailing to us the various types of bars, clubs and pubs that the town has. Whether you’re after some slopeside mayhem, a place to catch some live sport, a club to dance all night long in, or simply a quiet spot with a relaxed atmosphere, you’re in for a treat in St Anton.

Check out what they’ve recommended below.

Our must-visit après ski bars and nightlife hotspots in St Anton are:

1. Mooserwirt

2. Krazy Kanguruh

3. Basecamp

4. Bar Cuba

5. Murrmel Bar

6. Taps

7. Bobo's

8. Anton Bar

The best bars for mountain partying

  • Mooserwirt
  • Krazy Kangaruh

Imagine yourself tired and parched after a long day of skiing, pulling up to a bar and seeing the first signs of people leaping onto the tables and waiters lugging round huge double trays of thirty beers and jäger bombs.

What if I told you that you were imagining Mooserwirt and Krazy Kanguruh at about 4pm - every single day. From there, the scenes get even more wild and the tunes get even more danceable.

Mooserwirt churns out the cheesy tunes all day and has an unrivalled atmosphere in the mountains. The party starts with ‘The Final Countdown’ at 3:30pm, before the Austro/German pop sends the crowds into a frenzy. At the same time, Krazy Kanguruh’s sun terrace is packed with dancing skiers being led by the DJ.

Mooserwirt is located on the easy Number 1 Blue Run down from the Zammermoosbahn chairlift and is the final après venue on the mountain. You can then ski down into town or grab a taxi if that’s no longer an option.

Meanwhile, Krazy Kanguruh (owned by Olympic slalom champion Mario Matt) is on the same run, just a bit further up from Mooserwirt. Alternatively, you can also enter KK via the Number 21 Red Run.

The best bars for live music

  • Basecamp

If you’d rather have fun with some live music rather than DJ sets, head to Basecamp – a local favourite. Situated at the bottom of the slopes by the start of the Gampen chairlift, it’s the place to go straight after Mooserwirt and Krazy Kanguruh have shut their doors for the night.

A saxophonist makes frequent appearances throughout the night, while other live music is regular, with DJs filling the gaps between sets. Being quite low down, it’s a great place to mingle with those who aren’t skiers, and the fun starts at 3pm every day.

A special mention also goes out to Keller Bar, which is in the beginner-friendly Nasserein area of St Anton, and therefore perfectly placed for first-timers to grab a well-deserved post-lesson pint.

Cheapest bars in St Anton

  • Taps

St Anton isn’t known for its cheap pricing, so that’s something that’ll have to be considered. That’s not to say everything is mind-blowingly expensive though.

Taps has a happy hour from 3:30 to 4:30 and is an offshoot of the Krazy Kanguruh, albeit with its own sun terrace that arguably has better mountain views than KK.

The best nightclub for partying ‘til the early hours

  • Murrmel Bar

There aren't loads of late night spots in St Anton, but Murrmel, a nightclub and live music venue that stays open until 3am, is a safe bet for a big night. Located in the main strip in St Anton, it's lively and fun, with DJs playing on two floors.

Best bar for watching sports

  • Bar Cuba

Bar Cuba has seven separate screens, showing all sorts of sport. You can catch rugby (including the Six Nations), as well as the Premier League and plenty more football, cricket and more.

Best karaoke bar in St Anton

  • Bobo's

There isn’t an out-and-out karaoke bar in St Anton, but the famous Bobo’s offers some decent opportunities to get behind the mic. While it’s typically a standard bar and nightclub, it will semi-regularly invite people up to have a go.

This tends to be a certain night each week, so we’d recommend checking in when you get to St Anton to find out which night if you’re dead set on some singing.

Best bar for something a bit more relaxed

  • Anton Bar

Of course, not everyone is in St Anton to go crazy - there’s plenty of time and space for those after a nice, relaxed evening. Anton Bar in the Hotel Anton is a good place to go - it’s got “groovy rhythms”, open fires, and an emphasis on great food, while openly admitting it rolls at a much slower pace than normal.

Where to stay if you want to be near St Anton’s après hotspots

Much of St Anton’s nightlife is found close to its pedestrianised town centre. Iglu Ski's Alice Barlow did a season in St Anton, and says that "if you want to be close to the action, then you could do no worse than booking a room in Hotel Post - literally upstairs from the Postkeller nightclub. Sporthotel and Hotel Alte Post are also popular picks, while a cheaper option would be Hotel Rendlhof"

Another St Anton seasonnaire, Iglu Ski's Lucas Lambert agrees with the above, adding that "most of the chalets are a little further out of town, although there are great bus links which run every 10-15 minutes in the morning and afternoon - providing you stay to the west of Rendlbahn ski lift".
