Summer is well and truly over now as winter made a dramatic return this weekend! Up to 50cm of snow fell over the last 3 days in high ski areas across the Alps. Resorts in Austria, Italy and Switzerland received the heaviest snowfalls including Passo Stelvio, Zermatt, Saas Fee and Hintertux glacier (near Mayrhofen). France missed out on the best of the snow this time, with just a dusting at high altitude.
The heaviest snow reported so far is 50 cm at Passo Stelvio in Italy and 35cm at Hintertux glacier. Ski season kicks off early in Stubai on Friday 13th September with 4 lifts opening on the Daunferner glacier.
Today marks 75 days until Europe’s highest ski resort, Val Thorens, opens for the season. Be the first on the slopes this winter with ski holiday packages start from 23rd November 2019.
