fantastic holiday!!!! - 16/03/2013
Overall

Just returned from week snowboarding and stayed in Les Airelles. Although the Chalet itself was dated and in need of a facelift the staff were fantastic and the food spot on. The rooms themselves were sparse but nice and warm and the beds surprisingly comfy. All staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, and often went above and beyond what might be expected off them - sorting out our ski hire and lessons after a botched booking was just one example of this. Would be a 5 star review but the dated and slightly shabby state of the chalet brings it down to 4-star. If you want a great value holiday and aren't too fussed about showing off pictures of beautiful chalet interiors to your friends, this is definitely the place to go!!!!!

I have just returned from a week in Les Deux alpes where I stayed in the chalet hotel Les Airelles. I was expecting the property to be quite basic given that it was a 2* but was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were comfortable and the food was well above the standard that I was expecting. The property itself has a nice living area with open fire as well as a good size flat screen TV and DVD player which was ideal for a night in when we decided not to hit the may bars that Les Deux Alpes has. As fare as the resort goes I was also very impressed. There was a real lack of snow this season as skiing back to the village was a struggle but once you got up high the skiing was great. I learnt whilst I was there that Les Deux Alpes has the biggest skiable glacier in France and that was a great bonus. Even when it didn't snow in the village it was snowing up top and I couldn't believe that we managed to get 3 powder days from a holiday in the last week of March during a season in was reported in the UK press as having 'no snow' . It just goes to show, don't believe everything that the papers say. On top of having a huge glacier Les Deux Alpes also has one of the best snow parks in the Aples. It is very well maintained and will give any discerning free style skier a good challenge.

I came back form the Les Airelles only a few weeks ago and had a fantastic time. The staff were great and always on hand for advice about the resort. The hosts prepared fresh filling food which is just what I needed after a hard days skiing. Infact the afternoon tea and cake was delicious. The huge plus points for me were the proximity to the lifts (the Diable is no further than 100m) as I HATE walking in ski boots and the bar area in the hotel. Its great to have a few drinks after dinner in preparation for a good night on the town. All in all a great chalet hotel for the price and will definitely go back. Thanks for recommending Iglu.

Took a group of 23 in first half of April 2011. Skiing very acceptable in what was a poor year for snow throughout the Alpes. Hotel very basic (as expected) but reasonably clean, food good enough and service from staff astonishingly high - nothing was too much trouble. Our biggest issue was the noise from other buildings in the area - it went on all night and into the small hours with much shouting, thumping music and drunken singing into the small hours. All with the odd 20 minute break which made you hope it had stopped for the night - and then it started again. Groan!!!

Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Staff. I have just come back from a week's skiing in Les Deux Alpes where I stayed at the Hotel Les Airelles. I think to sum it up, it's like being at home just up a mountain. I went with a group of 12 people, so we took the family room along with two triples, the family suite was spacious but only had one toilet and one bathroom with shower. The triple I stayed in was spacious, clean and although basic did the job, the balcony had a lovely view looking out over the mountains from Venosc. The hotel is in a perfect location, being only a five minute walk from the Red Egg lift, which takes you up to the right side of the mountain, where it is easy to ski down to the Pano Bar and also the Jandari express lift taking you up towad the super diablo chairlift and on the glacier. The hotel itself is basic and is definetly no frills, such as no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. I would however say that this is counter acted by the fact the urn is always full of hot water and the coffee machine is almost always on in the lounge. The staff however are awesome and make the hotel seem like you are at home just up a mountain, they are all warm and friendly and are always there to help. They are led by Clare who I think is superwomen... she runs the hotel and also doubles as the chef. This brings me nicely onto the food... Wow is all i am going to say. For breakfast there is a mixed platter of cheese and ham along with a choice of cereal, if this was not enough then there was always a full fry up — which can be ordered from one of the team. Every day there was a different cake for afternoon tea, along with tea, coffee, bread and jams. This was brilliant especially if one had stopped at Pano on the way down and needed something to fill the stomach before an afternoon nap! Dinner was a varied three course meal, which I would say in my opinion was as good as any restaurant. The meals were awesome and definitely filled you up after a long hard day skiing, especially when it was washed down with a beer from the hotel bar — which is very reasonable and cheaper than some of the local bars! Joe the barman will be quite happy to have a chat and give you some hints about the best runs, as well as also keeping you entertained with his own style of djing. I think in short this hotel is awesome in every aspect of the word, from the food to the staff to the friendly homely atmosphere they promote. This is very true of the lounge where most people got together over a cuppa and cake, I have never found this before when I have stayed in a hotel.
