World record beaten for second time in two weeks
Having just set the world record for the most ski lifts used in a day, Christian Flühr will be feeling quite deflated, after seeing it last just 11 days.
Starting at 7:30am on the 11th of February, Kern managed all the lifts in the various resorts in the Swedish area - Stöten, Hundfjället, Tandådalen, Högfjället, Lindvallen and Kläppen - all of which are becoming an increasingly popular choice for ski holidaymakers.
He finished at 6:30pm at the summit of Kläppen, where he was handed his world record certificate. Overall, he used just 1 gondola, 10 chairlifts, and 90 T-bar and button lifts.

Les Gets to receive sparkling new chairlift
The 8-seater, “ergonomic” chairlift will have a slick moving carpet which can adjust its speed for all levels of skier. It will replace the current 4-seater chairlift, while also significantly improving its speed from 2 metres per second to 6 metres per second - cutting the overall journey time to less than 3 minutes, from its current time of close to 8 minutes.
Part of the esteemed Portes du Soleil ski area, Les Gets also claims the new chairlift will need less energy to operate, will produce less noise and cut the use of hydrocarbons.

Kitzbühel gets ready for bizarre annual event
The “Streif Vertical Up” is an annual race to the top of the 860m Streif peak. It covers well over 3km of ground - but of course the whole thing is uphill in the snow, with a headlight on helmet.
It welcomes competitors from around Europe, with plenty watching on from the bottom. The race takes place on 22nd February, with one elite version, and a safer version which avoids the steepest sections. There’s also a fancy-dress competition to take part in.

Ski World Cup excites crowds in Austria
With more than 600 athletes from over 70 countries, it’s the ultimate skiing competition, with every type of ski race covered.
Iglu Ski team member, Gordon, was in attendance, with many of the gold medals going to Swiss athletes, while some Austrians, Americans and Italians also won races.
There were no medals for the UK this time, although history was made back in 2022 when Brit Dave Ryding stunned the competition to win gold in the men’s slalom.

UK wins 8 snowsport medals at Invictus Games
The Games, which lasted from 8th-16th February, are an event for wounded, injured and sick military service personnel - both serving and veterans.
Kemsley Whittlesea won gold in the Men’s Novice snowboarding, while Kayleigh Pierce won gold in the Women’s Novice Sit Ski.
Having run every other year since 2014, it is the first edition which incorporated snowsports. The next edition is here in the UK, in Birmingham, in 2027.
