US announces freestyle team for new season

US announces freestyle team for new season The United States has selected its 30-person freestyle team for the 2006-07 season, set to compete in a number of events including the Freestyle World Championships, the US World Cups and the moguls season opener in Tignes.

The US team, which consists of 16 women and 14 men, contains nine athletes that are Olympians and includes reigning moguls world champions Nate Roberts and Hannah Kearney and former Olympic medallist Shannon Bahrke.

"These athletes are fantastic people with a lot of character to go with their talent," said Polly-Jo Clark, programme director.

"It's fun to be a part of it and we're expecting some intense competition for the World Cup spots and for the World Championships team in January. Some will need to gain experience on the World Cup and everything that comes with it. And the veterans know exactly what it takes ? it's time to do it."

The first moguls competition of the season will take place in mid-December, at the Tignes resort in France.

January 23rd to the 28th will see the US team take part in the Freestyle World Championships, in Italy.
