One of the best 'all round' resorts - 22/08/2016

Alpe d’Huez is a brilliant option if you have a group of mixed ski abilities or a large family group with lots of mixed ages as there is so much variety here. The ski area is huge with a fantastic mix of beginner, intermediate and expert runs. The apres and nightlife is one of the best I’ve experienced in France with a large range of bars and clubs across the town, including La Folie Douce at the top of the home run. Plus nearly every alpine activity you could name, you can do here. Snowboarders will also love it here with the lack of flats and lots of long ski runs. The views from the glacier are amazing and experienced skiers have got to try the 16km black piste Sarenne! I most recently stayed at Chalet Hotel Les Cimes which has brilliant access to the slopes and town.

Overall

The hotel Pic Blanc was quite well situated with regard to the lifts and the main resort. Lifts were well managed and efficiently maintained. The snow was a trecherous but that is no fault of Iglu. The food in the hotel was of moderately high standard. Service and support from the hotel staff was superb being efficient and pleasant in delivery. The television had no English channels, a disastrous state of affairs. The TV set was a useless ornament. The tour guides/reps tried but seemed to be lacking in many respects. The initial meeting to present the resort was close to being useless. The French guide to map out the ski runs was of no value. She spoke assuming that we were familiar with the jargon and the local culture. Her accent was so thick that what was said totally incomprehensible. A waste of time in attending. The reps were lacking in experience filling one with no confidence. The delivery was weak and the detail was of little value. The reps only seemed to light up when they were to sell a product or a service. I felt that their training was poor. Why could there not have been more use made of modern technology referring to minute pieces of paper was off putting. In summary the resort and the the hotel were very, very good. The ski representatives left a good deal to be improved. Management was at fault.
