If you are the sort of skier that traverses across a field of bumps or moguls, performs a rushed snow-plough turn at the other side and then traverses back again - then maybe the following tips could help!
- Check your speed on the back side of the bump (a firm pole plant to the side of you will aid balance and rhythm)
- Absorb the bump by bringing your knees up beneath you
- Use the 'up force' of the bump to gently turn your skis around it
- Keep the skis in contact with the snow and line up your next bump
These 4 steps can be simulated on the flat, to build up a good rhythm of speed check - flexion - extension & turn - speed check etc. Once in the bumps, first attempt two consecutive turns (ideally around low, soft bumps) to build your confidence, then three, four etc.
Combine these tips with those on short turns and you will be well on your way to mastering the dreaded bumps.
